Hola mi amor!
Believe it or not Maddy and I booked our trip 4 days before we left for Mexico. It was total chaos at first but after everything was locked in it became one of the best trips I have ever taken. Maddy and I knew we wanted to go on a girls trip for her birthday but we didn't know where we wanted to go. We wanted to stay relatively close to the U.S but still be out of the country. Almost everyone I know has been to Tulum or in that vicinity of Mexico. So we decided Tulum sounded like a good idea. After living in Tulum for a week I can completely understand the fascination. It's the perfect get away especially for Americans because it is so close but feels so far. Maddy and I really didn't do much exploring because we wanted to use this trip to relax, eat, and sleep.....and that is exactly what we did. The food we ate in Tulum was likely one of my favorite parts of the trip. This will come as shock but Maddy and I actually didn't eat any Mexican food while we were in Tulum. I'm not a fan on Mexican food so we pretty much steered clear. However, that didn't make any of the restaurants we went to less desirable. One of our favorite restaurants is called Posada Margherita. This was our go-to restaurant when we were hungry. It's located right on the beach so while we ate we got a beautiful view. We tried their pizza and their pasta (both homemade) and they were incredible. The serving sizes are pretty big and at first you think "how am I going to finish this?" but when you dig in it's game over. Next thing you know all the food is gone and you are asking for seconds. Posada is also a hotel so they have a very small beach club that Maddy and I used pretty much everyday. Usually you have to pay to stay at beach clubs if you aren't staying at the hotel they belong to but because Maddy and I went to Posada so often we sorta became regulars so they staff just let us through. Another one of our favorite restaurants we ate at is called Hartwood. We only ate here once because it can get pricey and we only tried it on the last night. However, the food was amazing and worth every penny. I got a huge steak and Maddy got ribs. Again the serving sizes were huge but we ate almost all of it. While we were in Tulum the owner of Hartwood was actually in Los Angeles at some sort of event that he and Wolfgang Puck either attended together or hosted. I forget. Last but not least we went to Matcha Mama which is pretty famous and almost all influencers have taken a picture there so naturally so did we. We both got Acai bowls and they tasted like candy but they are actually very healthy for you. Besides relaxing, eating, and sleeping, Maddy and I did take one adventure to Cenotes Dos Ojos. Cenotes area deep natural sinkholes formed by the collapse of surface limestone and they expose ground water underneath. They were used by the ancient Mayans for sacrificial offerings. We used a tour guide and he took us to the way back of the Cenotes where there was a bat cave. We had to navigate through the water and in between limestone that was above and below us. The bat cave was a little scary but it was very cool to be able to see bats up close. The water was pretty cold but tolerable and it was extremely clear so we were able to snorkel during the whole thing. Maddy and I ate and stayed at a lot more places but the rest will be in blogs to come. Have a great weekend loves.
